  Name: Black Box Winery Australian Chardonnay  Variety : 100% Chardonnay  Region: Not Specified Country: Australia Year: 2021  Price: $8.99 (500 ml) Winery Review: I was unable to really find any type of review for this version of the wine online. However, Black Box Wines has a California Chardonnay listed on their site and they said " Refreshing hints of crisp apple and a touch of oak accentuate Black Box Chardonnay’s smooth finish. Upon opening, this white wine stays fresh for six weeks, maintaining its excellent depth and structure. Pairs splendidly with chicken, white fish, and soft cheese.  For this month's wine dinner blog, I decided to treat myself. I love cooking and decided to buy myself a nice local ribeye and some zucchini and squash to grill up along with some rice. For an appetizer, I decided to fry up some pearl onions NY deli onion ring style with a pesto aioli as a dipping sauce.  Process of Frying Pearl Onions The pearl onion rings turned out great and I decided to pair them with one of my absolute all-time favorite wines, an absolutely gorgeous Southern Rhone Tavel Rose from vineyard Domaine de la Mordoree. It's a little pricey (~$40) and I prefer the 2021 vintage over the 2022, but the delicious red fruit and sharp minerality of the Rose paired beautifully with fried, sweet, pearl onions. The color of the Tavel is a stunning strawberry red, it almost looks just like Hawaiian fruit punch. I also thought sharp, dry, fruity wine would pair well with the grilled zucchini and squash that would accompany my steak.  Tavel Rose  (2021)  ...

  Pictured above are the two wines I chose to review this week. One is a St. Francis Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County 2019 and the other is an Avignonesi Rosso di Montepulciano 2019.  First is the 2019 St. Francis Cabernet Sauvignon. It is a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon from North Coast, Sonoma County, California. Wine Enthusiast scored it an 86/100 and described the vintage as " An aroma of oak smoke and flavors of black pepper and blackberries dominate this full-bodied, chunky and moderately tannic wine. It's a little rough-edged, but nicely robust and flavorful." I quite enjoyed this wine and thought it was a great value for the price (~$20). I got oak and berries on the nose and it tasted of red fruits and berries like raspberries, plums, and blackberries. Also, medium tannis on the finish.      I've always been a huge fan of wine, but my adoration for it has skyrocketed in the last couple years. I would go so far as to consider myself a bit of a fanatic now-- so much so that for my twenty-first birthday I was gifted a very nice 8 bottle wine collection by my mother and father. I believe that wine is the best beverage on Earth and there's no drink I would rather have with a meal. I'll explain how my passion for wine was born and how its grown.      My family likes to travel a couple times a year, most often to Spain, but also to France and Italy, and in our travels I was lucky enough to become acquainted with a variety of quality wines. It was during these travels, and through trial and error, did I begin to develop an identity of the types of wine that I like to drink.
